Bum Leg...

  • Mood: Busy
  • Music: none at the moment

Today was interesting...

Had lots of errands to run and things to take care of, projects to get started on and projects to TRY and finish...

This afternoon I also had to do an interview for a reality TV show.  It was nice to be asked to do the interview thing, but I didn't take it too seriously...I don't take much seriously - life is too short.

So upon arriving at the location they were clearly running behind and had not been aware of my arrival.  After about 45 minutes of waiting I noticed a wheel chair.  Of course I opened it and began wheeling around like Lt. Dan from the movie "Forest Gump" to help pass the time.  When the director, producer, and whoever finally made there way to where I was waiting - still in the chair mind you - I decided to milk it.  I had convinced them that I needed the chair because I couldn't walk and made them help me get upstairs via elevator, moving furnature out of the way, re-arraning lighting trees and whatnot to accomodate my situation.  Of course during the interview they asked about how having the wheelchair had affected my career, etc.  Naturally I made up some crazy answers that were totally untrue.

At the end of the interview they kindly thanked me for coming and I thanked them back yada yada.  At which point - to their horror and suprise I have no doubt - I got up out of the wheelchair and walked away.

**Please note I was in no way making fun of anybody's physical conditions or find a disability in that form or any.  It was merely a spur of the moment ruse I decided to play by tossing some "reality tv style reality" back at producers.

Break a leg...err wait nevermind,

Danny Boi

Tea Time...

  • Mood: relaxed

Sooooooo

I've been busy again...so what else is new.  These blogs are hard to keep up with!  What's sad is I update my twitter more often than this, so FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER!  And your life will be filled with joy.

After being in Iowa for a week and some change I was able to get home to Vegas for about a day...no wait let me think about this...because I honestly can't remember because I've been all over the place lately...hold on...

...ok well I can't remember and I deleted those old past dates off my calendar page on my site so I don't remember.

But anyway...

So I've been all over.  I finally got my new bank card from WAMU aka Chase so now I can actually pay off my credit card which I used to pay off my bills when WAMU aka Chase didn't tell me they were going to send me a new card and cancelled my original WAMU bank card.  So kind of them.  And it came just in time too because it was time for me to stock up on all my accessories and goodies for my halloween shows!

Let's see what else...OK so I'm working on a page for Baby Stinky and the BS disease foundation...if you can't tell already its a spoof site.  And yes t-shirts and ribbons are being made and printed right now...so have a heart and support the cause!

Now been back on the road even though there's no Tim Hortons or Dunkin Donuts anywhere close to me things have been great.  I got a new winter jacket because where I'm at now in these northern states its FREEZING!!  I do miss snow so I don't mind seeing it and getting to experience it again.  Good times.  The audience last night was awesome!!  Such great people and appreciative and the energy was totally intense.  Loved it.  I also got some good video afterwards so I'll post it up as soon as I can get it finsihed editing...I have to bleep out the naughty words the people from the audience used when reacting to my show.  Things like "NO F*$&ING WAY!!!" - stuff like that...very innapropriate.

I also fianlly sold out and got an iPhone...it actually has come in handy quite a bit while on the road so I guess that is a good thing.  The best part is the Skype function I can use to call Temika when she's in Canada and it costs way less and doesn't go aganist my minutes on the phone.  So this is a good thing.

Oh before I forget here is a lovely letter to the editor from a fan from the show last night...I found this waiting for me in my inbox when I got back to the hotel room after the show:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
" Dan,

That was an amazing show.  It is so cool to see an artist such as yourself perform.  I brought my 4 year old daughter, and was told right away upon entering the auditorium that it was a “dark” show, but she really enjoyed it and was asking me all kinds of questions afterwards.  Any way thank you for doing an amazing job.  Really loved the music that went along with your performance too.  Hope to see you again in the future.

Thank you, your newest fans,

Andrew, Carlie"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's why I do it

Let's see I'm in Minneosta right now getting some things ready for the Fall/Winter Canadian tour with Murray Hatfield - gona kick ass try to come see it if you can!  Then I'm off to Wisconsin on Saturday for a show that night then onto I can't remember haha

I've got a new prop coming soon which I cannot wait to get into the show!  Here's a hint...it has to do with tattoos.  That's all I'll give away for now!  On Monday when I get back I'm filming some interview for some reality TV show...I don't know much about it I can't remember all the details.

But incase you couldn't tell I'm tired and need sleep...so I'm going to finish this deliscious cup of tea and head to sleepy land...nighty night...

Soooo I'm in Iowa, its been a great run here.  Tomorrow is the last show on this mini tour run and I've had a lot of fun.  The audiences have been awesome and the bookers have been great to work with.  I'm looking forward to getting back to Vegas though and picking up a new prop from my builder's place.  I'm really excited to get it on stage, its been a long time in the making!  I've had a long 2 days with the drives from venue to venue and then lots of downtime to kill in hotel rooms and walmarts.  Got a lot of new things in the works and have been putting pieces of a big puzzle together with my manager over the past few days.  So keep an eye out for some crazy sh!t coming!

The week at the Castle was awesome, great time working the Parlor.  Thanks to everybody who came out to visit and see the shows!  There were some cool people in my audiences like Rob Reger, you know him best as the creator of the character Emily The Strange and I also had Vanessa Lengies who you know best from the movie Waiting and Still Waiting.

Yesterday I killed some time by going to a mall.  I haven't gone out and been a mall rat in a long time, it was kind of fun.  I did end up spending some money though, I bought Temika a bunch of t-shirts - yeah I know, I feel like the Grandparent coming back from a vacation trip and bringing tshirts from all the places we went.  I got msyelf a new t-shirt too.  I know...fascinating.

I need to try to get some sleep, only 4 hours last night and then up this morning for a 2 hour drive.  Luckily my show tomorrow is not until 6 pm, so I'll get to sleep in a bit!

I hope to have some new videos up on youtube once I have some time when I get home to sit down and edit them!  Keep your eye peeled here, or my twitter page, or just on the main page of the site!

near death experience...

  • Mood: determined
  • Music: MSI
Yeaaaaah...I've been pretty busy here with lots going on so haven't hand a chance to update the secret diary lately, but LOTS has been going on...

My buddy Elliot Zimet was in town and crashed at my house for a few days with a bunch of doves and his parrot, which was cool to hang with him and dart about town.

After dropping him off at the airport I was leaving the parking garage and some guy came out of nowhere and hit my car, spun me, made me roll twice, land upside down where I skidded for a good few hundred feet ...here is the result of the car:

It was his fault and thank God I was able to walk away unharmed, he could have killed both of us!

So I had to say goodbye to my car, but I have now gotten another Element, this one is black and toxic green, Temika and I named it Frankenstein - figured it was appropriate and metaphorical...

After that chaos we hit the road for some tour dates out east, good times!

Before that though we had to stop in New Mexico for a gig at the New Mexio Tech theater/arts center that's there for an awesome show.  The audience was great and so were our hosts!

Then it was off to amazing Atlantic City...yes, I know what you're thinking...AC isn't so amazing...well usually NO but its always fun to visit one of my closest friends in the world: KOZAK.  So I did a week doing my show 2-3 times a day at the Tropicana hotel, staying at Kozak's, and working on new material.  Temika had never been to AC either so it was fun to be able to be there with her.

From AC it was off to Wyoming, then home to Vegas, LA for a night, then onto Wisconsin, back to Vegas and now to Hollywood to do a week at the Magic Castle!  Everybody has been great to work with at all the shows and its good to be back at the Castle again, I haven't worked here in 3 years - just too busy, and its fun to see everybody and hang out again!

Almost have a new bit in the show with a tongue, Harry Belafonte, and well you'll see haha

I have to Jet to Iowa next week for a run of shows all across the state there which is gona be fun!  I'm so blessed to be working right now and doing what I love to do.  I'm staying with my friend Farrell who is also a magcian and we've been good friends since we were both like 15 or 16 or something...dude wow that's like almost 10 years...yikes...but anyway we went around Hollywood the past few days stirring up trouble because that's our MO, but got to talk business too and how we never thought we'd be where we are today like 10 years ago.  The coolest stop was at Rob Zombie's halloween store, I could have bought everythign there!

Well I have to go reherse for now and then back to the Castle tonight for more shows!

Until next time...

MAGIC Live

  • Mood: excited
  • Music: Letter Kills
So the coolest magic convention in the world started yesterday.  It was very cool to see many old friends I haven't seen in a good few years.  My buddy Elliot Zimet was staying with me for a few days until he got his hotel room at the hotel where the convention was so it was cool to talk shop with him and go see some magic here in Vegas.  We went and saw the Nathan Burton show with Temika and a few other friends of Elliot who were in town for the convention as well.  If you're in Vegas be sure to check out Nathan Burton Comedy magic at the Flamingo.  He's been on TV on like America's got Talent and a few other shows and he does a great job.  Our friend Hayley is in the show too so its always fun to see her and chat for a bit.  Hayley used to be in the World's Greatest Magic Show when that was still going.

Today is day 2 of the convention so I should get going soon to head over to help some friends with their acts and whatnot.  Lots of cool stuff there to see.  I bought two fake rubber hammers but they look amazingly real haha.  I have no idea what I'm going to do with them but I had a good time running around the convention freaking people out with it by hitting them - its definetly a pulse stopper.

We've had a good few weeks off from being on the road now until its back to business again.  Going to have a busy end of the month and then head first into fall and Halloween shows and back on the road again.  I just checked on a new prop that'll be in the show very soon and it look incredible.  I can't wait to get it on stage!

I should also have a ton of new video footage up and online very soon in the near future.  I just need to find time to sit down and do it haha.

Well gota run, gota get some groceries then back to business...

A very merry unbirthday...for a few more hours at least

Buuuuuuuuuusy busy busy!!!

the show in bode went well, it was a lot of fun and the crowd was great.  Very responsive and appreciative and I had fun meeting everybody after the show.  A big special thanks to everybody who hung out afterwards to say hello and whatnot.

it was an interesting day flying in at midnight the night before, getting up and getting my sound system (bought it from Guitar Center and then returned in 2 days later - its how it goes on the road sometimes haha) drove to my dad's place to get some doves (its too expensive to fly with them these days so luckily I had some here in Minnesota I could use) and he and I hit the road for the 4 hr trip to Bode.  Got here, set up, did the show, turned around and drove home getting in at about 2 am...this is how it is in real life performing haha and I love every minute of it.

Temika arrived the next day so I had to get to the airport to pick her and Merlin up - My little neice and nepher are in town from London so Spike is at the babysitters in Las Vegas right now, I didn't think it would be a good idea to introduce him to the little kids as if they don't listen he could take their fingers off!

Speaking of - its been a lot of fun getting to spend some time with my Neice and Nephew from London this trip.  It worked out great to do the show in Iowa and then stay some extra days to be with family for a nice little vacation.  We went to Mall of America today and went to the Shark Reef there, then went to the two magic shops here in MN I used to hang out at when I was a kid.  It was a good time getting to see everybody and brought back tons of old great memories.  I wish I had a time machine right now so bad.

Speaking of Time Machines...its my birthday tomorrow...25 years old...yikes, how depressing...I'm freaking out already.  I have a bit of a Peter Pan complex...

but on the bright side I'm gona go see the Rudy Coby show tomorrow which is something to look forward to...I really can't wait.  I don't get star struck by many people at all, but Rudy is one of the exceptions I'd have to put on my list, I remember watching him as a kid and I've never seen him live so this should be cool...

Here's to the memories...

Sooo looks like we got everything set to go for the Ufda days show in Bode, IA on August 1st!  If you're in the area be sure to check it out!

Also getting ready to hit the road for other shows including the MASTERS OF MAGIC in Loveland, Co coming up next weekend!  Always planning ahead I did a trial pack of the car to make sure trailer and/or van was not necessary...seriously my Honda Element is one of the coolest things I've ever bought - no only is it a cool car but look at all the junk we can fit in it!

Awwwuh yeaaauh!!!

And there's still room for the birds and merlin to come along - tied to the roof of course

What you're looking at is our set list for the show in Loveland - I want it to be a surprise so I'm not gona give away any hints yet I'll let you try to guess what it is haha

I gota keep this short cuz I'm getting together with my good friends Roy Shank, Mike Giles, and Lunda Shimada tonight to jam out on some music we've been working on - I can't wait!  It's been quite awhile since I've gotten to shred out some tunes with other musicians.  Playing along to the music on my limewire account has been kinda boring haha.  So I gota run to guitar center my tuner has suddenly gone missing.  I also have to drop off a bunch of merch orders at the post office - I love going there on the weekends cuz I can use the automated postal center and not have to wait in line or anything like that since nobody is there!  Ahh its the little things in life

Ta for now spooky kidz,

Follow the white rabbit...

Curiouser...and Curiouser...

First of all, happy 4th of July to all of you!  As I'm sure you can imagine 4th of July is pretty insane here in Las Vegas, and I'm happy to be here getting to celebrate it rather than on the road.  I do, however miss smelling the BBQ grills, fresh cut grass, and chatter at backyard get-togethers back home in Minnesota.  Since its freezing cold there 9 months out of the year, we really appreciate our summers and take full advantage.  I've been spoiled out here in Vegas where that's basiclly how it is 10 months out of the year!  My blood is still thick though, I'm not selling out that easily.

Lots of fun stuff in the works too.  Been on the road quite a bit lately and am enjoying my time at home and relaxing with spike and getting some cleaning done.  I'm starting to get worried I'm turning into a major germaphobe.  Gona be keeping an eye on this as it develops.  I also got some painting done, which I've been craving to do for quite some time now.  I also recently stopped over at my good friend and magic builder Thom's house to check out how one of the newest props is coming along and it looks killer...literally killer, its this crazy shredder/woodchipper/grinder thing you wouldn't want anything getting caught in.  But, that's exactly what we're gona do with it.

I'm very happy for a buddy of mine: Luke Jermay.  He's a mind reader and recently got his own show in the little theater above O'Sheas casino on the Las Vegas strip.  Now, I know 99.9% of you have NO idea what O'Sheas is or where it is.  I know, so it doesn't ring a bell like say Bellagio does, but chances are you know where O'Sheas is and you've bought one of their $1 drinks as you've walked down the strip.  It is right next to Imperial Palace and across the street from Caesar's Palace.   If you're in town go check it out and have your mind read!  I also got back from a quick trip out to LA to hang with my good buddy Farrell Dillon as he was working the Magic Castle this week so I thought I'd pop in and pay a little visit to the Magic Castle.  Some other friends of mine where there too: Murray Hatfield and Teresa - if you're Canadian you know who Murray is.  He tours Canada every year with the largest and longest running Canadian magic show.  I toured with him a few years ago and it was awesome.  Murray and Teresa are two very talented folks and they put on an awesome show.  it was really cool to get to see them work again.

For those of you that tuned into the iTricks clinic last monday a big thank you!  You helped make it one of the craziest things to get put on itricks and possible any magic forum/chat board/etc.  It was a lot of fun and no, I will never reveal who was in the white rabbit suit.  Just try to remember the truth...there is no rabbit.
